These sweet little pastries from Great Britain are actually a quick bread and usually eaten with clotted cream and jam during tea time. Scones are the perfect snack for tea time, but they even taste delicious without the tea.

1 kg all-purpose flour
350 ml milk
250 g soft butter
175 g sugar
8 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp sea salt
1 egg
175 g raisins (optional)
Try it yourself:
Step 1. Put the flour, butter, baking powder & salt in a bowl.
Step 2. Mix milk, sugar, vanilla extract & egg. Save 50 ml for later & add the rest to the flour mixture. Knead for 2-3 minutes. Optionally add the raisins.
Step 3. Put the dough on the work surface & knead with your hands for one minute. Make sure the dough stays cool.
Step 4. Roll out the dough (6-7 cm thick), cut out circles & place them on a greased baking tray.
Step 5. Brush with the remaining milk-egg mixture.
Step 6. Bake at 180°C for 16-20 minutes (air circulation).
